The only thing consistent about the Red Bulls is their inconsistency.
Every time the Red Bulls think they have turned the corner, they stumble just a little bit more.
After defeating the New England Revolution on July 8, they have dropped to consecutive matches. Their latest loss came via a 3-1 defeat at Real Salt Lake at America First Field in Sandy, Utah on Saturday night.
Midfielder Diego Luna, 19, became the youngest player to secure a brace for RSL (10-7-7, 37 points), while the 11th-place Red Bulls (26) fell to 6-9-8.
Only two minutes after kickoff, Luna gave the hosts all the scoring they needed as he put away a Jefferson Savarino right wing cross past goalkeeper Carlos Coronel.
Luna added to his team’s spoils in the 53rd minute as he scored off a nice combination play with Danny Musovski to score from the right side of the penalty area.
The Red Bulls managed to find the net in the 80th minute when Frankie Amaya converted Kyle Duncan’s right-wing feed in the box.
About a minute later, however, Savarino restored the hosts’ two-goal margin when he fired a 22-yard blast from the left side into the far right corner for his sixth goal of the campaign.
